Engineer and founder of Dream Networks (she/her)
Marie Williams is a woman on a global mission to enable play4all children. A finalist to the Institute of Engineering’s Female Engineer of the Year award, and climate change summit lead for the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, her playful career has seen her collaboratively create sustainable solutions within a variety of industries, from aerospace and corporate social responsibility, to software development and play.
Marie advocates for all children’s right to play. She wants to change the spaces they inhabit and play through amplifying their voices by giving them the agency to design. In 2015, she launched Dream Networks and began a journey to enable equitable play4all children. To date, Dream Networks has collaborated with businesses, schools and communities in the UK and East Africa to bring sustainably built and community tailored play spaces to over 20,000 children. And these play spaces are co-designed with the children themselves. She is a 2021-2022 Senior Lecturer associate at Bristol University’s Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship and is currently guest lecturing at designmatters.
Some of Marie’s favourite ways to play are baking, painting and swimming and is kept busy with her children (one of which she’s still carrying).
